Holi (Dhulandi) across India

Holi, on the full moon of Phalguna, celebrates the victory of good over evil, the love of Radha and Krishna and the arrival of spring. The night before is Holika Dahan.

How the date is fixed

Phalguna Purnima has the same name in both calendars. Holika Dahan is lit on the evening the Purnima prevails at Pradosh, outside Bhadra; the colours are played the next day.

These rules are the ones this site's engine uses; the dates are for the selected place.

Holika Dahan — 21/03/2027 (Sun)
  1. The date is Phalguna Shukla Paksha Purnima; the month name is the same in the Amanta and Purnimanta systems.
  2. It falls on the day when this tithi prevails during Pradosh Kaal — the first fifth of the night after sunset.
  3. If the tithi prevails at that time on two consecutive days, the day on which it covers more of that period is taken.
  4. If the tithi does not touch that period on any day (a kshaya tithi), the Hindu day on which the tithi prevails longest is used.
  5. The ritual time window excludes Bhadra (Vishti karana).
  6. If Bhadra covers the whole period, the window shown starts when Bhadra ends.
  7. In a year with an Adhik month of the same name, it is observed in the regular (Nija) month.

If Bhadra covers Pradosh, many Panchangs permit Holika Dahan in Bhadra Puchha or after Bhadra ends; follow local guidance.

Holika Dahan

Holi (Dhulandi) — 22/03/2027 (Mon)
  1. Observed 1 day(s) after Holika Dahan.
