How these dates are calculated
Each observance is defined by a rule (for example, the tithi that must prevail at sunrise, midday, dusk or midnight). The engine finds the day on which that rule is met at the selected place; when the tithi covers the required time on two days, the tie-break rule of the observance is applied and noted.
