Gowri Panchangam (Gowri Nalla Neram) is used mainly in Tamil Nadu and other parts of South India to pick a good time. The day and the night are each divided into eight parts named Uthi, Amirdha, Rogam, Laabam, Dhanam, Sugam, Soram and Visham. Amirdha, Uthi, Laabam, Dhanam and Sugam are considered good; Rogam, Soram and Visham are avoided.
