How the date is determined
- It recurs every lunar month on Shukla Paksha Ekadashi.
- It falls on the day when this tithi prevails at local sunrise (udaya tithi).
- If the tithi is present at two sunrises (a vriddhi tithi), the first day is taken.
- If the tithi does not touch that period on any day (a kshaya tithi), the Hindu day on which the tithi prevails longest is used.
- Ekadashi names follow the traditional month in which each is cited. Parana (breaking the fast) is on Dwadashi, after sunrise and outside Hari Vasara; see the Ekadashi page for the full rules.
- Your calculation profile lists the Smarta date first (as in most North Indian Panchangs: Ekadashi at sunrise, with the vriddhi, kshaya and Dwadashi rules on the Ekadashi page); the Vaishnava (ISKCON) date is always shown beside it.
Traditional variation
This is the date given by the rule shown above for the selected place. It is not the only valid date: regional Panchangs, family customs and sampradayas may observe it on a different day.
Rule source: Smarta: Ekadashi at sunrise (first day if on two sunrises). Vaishnava profile: Dashami-viddha at Arunodaya shifts to next day.
Traditions may vary by region and Panchang convention. Times are shown for the selected place, time zone and calculation profile.
