Shloka of the day

Shloka of the day Thursday, 5 February 2026

One Sanskrit verse a day from the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Vedas, subhashitas and well-known stotras, with transliteration and meaning. 132 verses in rotation.

Traditional subhashita

candanaṃ śītalaṃ loke candanādapi candramāḥ |

candracandanayormadhye śītalā sādhusaṅgatiḥ ||

Meaning

Sandalwood is cooling, and the moon cooler still; but more cooling than both is the company of good people.

The meaning is our own short paraphrase, not a word-for-word translation.
