Shloka of the day

Shloka of the day Monday, 16 February 2026

One Sanskrit verse a day from the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Vedas, subhashitas and well-known stotras, with transliteration and meaning. 132 verses in rotation.

Traditional prayer

gajānanaṃ bhūtagaṇādisevitaṃ kapitthajambūphalasārabhakṣaṇam |

umāsutaṃ śokavināśakārakaṃ namāmi vighneśvarapādapaṅkajam ||

Meaning

I bow at the lotus feet of the elephant-faced Lord of obstacles, served by the ganas, who enjoys wood-apple and jambu fruit, the son of Uma who destroys sorrow.

The meaning is our own short paraphrase, not a word-for-word translation.
