Shloka of the day

Shloka of the day Sunday, 21 June 2026

One Sanskrit verse a day from the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Vedas, subhashitas and well-known stotras, with transliteration and meaning. 132 verses in rotation.

Traditional prayer

karpūragauraṃ karuṇāvatāraṃ saṃsārasāraṃ bhujagendrahāram |

sadā vasantaṃ hṛdayāravinde bhavaṃ bhavānīsahitaṃ namāmi ||

Meaning

I bow to Shiva, white as camphor, compassion incarnate, the essence of the world, wearing the king of serpents as a garland, ever dwelling in the lotus of the heart, together with Bhavani.

The meaning is our own short paraphrase, not a word-for-word translation.
