Shloka of the day

Shloka of the day Monday, 9 March 2026

One Sanskrit verse a day from the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Vedas, subhashitas and well-known stotras, with transliteration and meaning. 132 verses in rotation.

Traditional subhashita

na corahāryaṃ na ca rājahāryaṃ na bhrātṛbhājyaṃ na ca bhārakāri |

vyaye kṛte vardhata eva nityaṃ vidyādhanaṃ sarvadhanapradhānam ||

Meaning

Thieves cannot steal it, kings cannot seize it, brothers cannot divide it and it is no burden to carry; it grows the more it is spent. The wealth of learning is the greatest of all wealth.

The meaning is our own short paraphrase, not a word-for-word translation.
