Shloka of the day

Shloka of the day Friday, 2 October 2026

One Sanskrit verse a day from the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanishads, the Vedas, subhashitas and well-known stotras, with transliteration and meaning. 132 verses in rotation.

Traditional subhashita

kākaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ pikaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ ko bhedaḥ pikakākayoḥ |

vasantakāle samprāpte kākaḥ kākaḥ pikaḥ pikaḥ ||

Meaning

The crow is black and the cuckoo is black; what is the difference between them? When spring arrives, the crow is a crow and the cuckoo a cuckoo. (Worth shows itself in time.)

The meaning is our own short paraphrase, not a word-for-word translation.
